Fanatics Becomes the Latest Sportsbook to Apply for and Gain a License in Missouri
Fanatics Sportsbook is now available in yet another state, with the company’s operations set to get underway on December 1 Missouriis set to welcome a new sportsbook, with the Show-Me-Statenow playing host to the Fanatics brand and its sports betting operations, as the state is preparing to officially launch the vertical. This is the 24thjurisdictionin the United States where Fanatics has expanded into and the company is set to continue growing its footprint locally. This also makes the company the fifth to have formally gained a license in the jurisdiction, GamblingNews understands, as the field is beginning to crowd. However, there are still details that remain to be thrashed out, such as which company’s local sponsor would be. Fanatics can team up with either an established land-based casino or by looking into one of the local professional sports teams. The company will also be going up against at least several other companies; right now, this list consists of FanDuel, Circa Sports, and DraftKings. Among the other licensed parties is GLI, an independent testing lab, as well as Sportradar, a provider of data solutions. Fanatics will, however, unlike the other operators, seek to have both a land-based and a mobile license. Missouri allows companies to secure a license without land-based property. In the meantime, there are other companies that are looking to complete the certification process, including BetMGM, which has teamed up with Century Casinosand ESPN BET, which will be pushing forward through a tie-up with PENN Entertainment. Another meeting with applicants who wish to operate without a deal with a sports team or a land-based venue is due on August 13, with two mobile licenses will be finally picked by August 15. This means that any of the other companies will have to have plan B. Untethered licenses are, in fact, the preferred way of doing business for many companies, as they generate the bulk of sports betting handle. However, in a possible future where advertising is restricted, having access to brick-and-mortar venues could prove a benefit.
