Gibraltar Court Rejects Appeals by Former Mansion CEO Karel Mañasco

After sentencing former Mansion CEO Karel Mañascoto prison, the Gibraltar Court of Appealhas rejected multiple applications filed by the defendant in a prominent civil case concerning the alleged misappropriation of company funds.

Gibraltar Court Rejects Mañasco’s Appeal

Mañasco previously served as CEO and CFO of Mansion, the Gibraltar-based iGaming operator. However, the company later accused him of embezzling corporate funds, alleging he misappropriated approximately $6.6 millionwhile leading the organization. This resulted in Mañasco being sentenced to 12 months in prison.

However, now Mañasco filed several applications with the court, including an effort to overturn a strike-out order and an appeal against a disclosure ruling. The latest judgment, handed down on June 12, addresses a specific part of the civil case known as the “WWML claim.”

This claim centers on allegations that over €2.5 million ($2.68 million)and £127,000 (about $172,600)were paid between 2018and 2019to a company named WWML for consultancy services that the Mansion Group contends were fictitious, serving instead to funnel money to an offshore entity for Mañasco’s personal gain.

Additionally, KM Accountants, a firm allegedly under Mañasco’s control, invoiced a further €112,000 ($129,400). The claimants presented supporting evidence, including a £94,000 ($127,800) payment to Mañasco, which they assert can be traced back to transfers made to WWML.

The Chief Justice had earlier ruled that Mañasco’s defence and counterclaim on the WWML issue would be struck out unless he provided complete and substantive answers to specific questions about the €112,000 payment. Although Mañasco did eventually respond, the court found his submission to be dishonest and made in bad faith. The Court of Appeal upheld this assessment, finding no basis to overturn the lower court’s decision to enter judgment in Mansion’s favour on this part of the case.
